How did it Change America?
The Battle of Gettysburg was an important fight in the America Civil War. The American Civil War is said to have been one of the bloodiest wars America has ever experienced. The Battle of Gettysburg was said to be the turning point of the Civil War. If the three days of this bloody battle never happened, America would not be the same country that we see it as today. It was seen that the confederate states were winning the Civil War at one point. The Battle of Gettysburg turned that around. The Confederates decided to charge at the Union but the Union was not going to go down without a fight. Canons were fired at the Confederates, killing half of their men. The Confederates retreated and left the Union with a victory. If the Confederates won the battle America could have been split into a north and a south. The Battle of Gettysburg also changed how Americans view the American military and its history. Gettysburg is a historical place and is full with monuments. Some say if you remain peaceful while on the site, you can hear the spirits of the dead men who risked their lives during one of the bloodies battles in America. Abraham Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address in memory of the dead soldiers of the Battle of Gettysburg. It was said that even though the address was short, the powerful wording is what made it so special. The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in American history and the American military. The country we call America today could have been split into two if the Union did not defeat the Confederates. Now we are ONE nation.
